KILLESHANDRA

Killeshandra is a rural village set in the middle of unspoilt countryside, green fields, forests and dozens of lakes and rivers which form part of the upper Erne system.

CLOUGH OUGHTER CASTLE

Clough Oughter Castle is a circular Castle standing on a man made island and, is accessible only by boat. Built in the early 13th century, it was soon captured by the O’Reilly clan Irish rulers of east 
Breifne, and controlled it until the 16th century. Owen Roe O’Neill leader of the anti English revolt of the 1640’s died here in November 1649

CAVAN - THE LAKE COUNTY

Cavan was made into a county in 1584 by the then Lord Deputy and took its county name from the principal Seat of the O’Reilly’s in the Area. 

Cavan, which remains the County town, was part of the Old Kingdom. Breifne and the part that is now Cavan was known as Breifne O’Reilly.   Lakes and Drumlins are the major elements in Cavan landscape and boast over 300 lakes and is also the source of two of the largest rivers. The river Shannon rises in Glangevlin and the Erne rises in Lough Gowna.
